Signify's UV-C sterilization solution (Signify is a new name for Philips lighting)
Test results show that the virus is no longer detected after a few seconds of exposure to UV-C . light
- Signify will make its UV-C lighting technology widely available to other lighting companies
- Signify has been pioneering UV technology for over 35 years
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam – Signify (Euronext: LIGHT), the leader in the lighting industry, together with the National New Infectious Diseases Laboratory (NEIDL)1 at Boston University in USA conducted This study aims to validate the effectiveness of UV-C light sources from Signify in neutralizing SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the COVID-19 epidemic.
Since the beginning of the SARS CoV-2 pandemic, Dr. Anthony Griffiths, Professor of Microbiology at Boston University School of Medicine, and his team have worked on developing tools to aid scientific progress in this field 2. During the study, they treated a material that had been exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus with different doses of UV-C radiation from the Signify corporation's lamp light source and evaluated its ability to neutralize chemical under different conditions. The research team applied a dose of 5mJ/cm2, and the results showed that the SARS-CoV-2 virus was reduced by 99% in 6 seconds. Also according to research data, with a radiation dose of 22mJ/cm2, the amount of virus was reduced to 99.9999% of the virus within just 25 seconds3.
Our experimental results show that with an appropriate dose of UV-C radiation, the virus will be completely inactivated. Within seconds, we no longer detected any viruses.”
